SCICH Partners with The SC Regional Office of the Dept of HUD to present at the 2024 Carolinas Council Conference.

On August 26, 2024, representatives from SCICH, and the SC Regional Office of the Dept of HUD presented a 3-hour session on how Continuums of Care (CoCs) and Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) can come together in collaboration to house more of our SC citizens who experience homelessness and housing insecurity. 

Many thanks to SC PIH Director, Randy Dyal; Debra Dusenbury, SC HUD Field Office Representative; Joey Smoak, CEO Eastern Carolina Housing Organization (ECHO); Clint Johnson, Information Systems Administrator ECHO; Carol McCall, Operations Director, Housing Authority of Myrtle Beach SC; and Meredith Daye, CFO Greensboro NC Housing Authority, for their excellent presentations.

"We were proud to be able to brings these groups together to help foster continued collaboration," says Lorain Crowl, Chair of SCICH. What surprised us the most about the interaction is that most of the PHA representatives were not members of their local CoC. Many had shared they were unfamiliar with Continuums of Care altogether, which indicates we've got a lot of work to do to help educate both PHAs and CoCs on the benefits of working together."

Roundtable Discussion and Training on Building a Statewide Collaboration to Address Housing Instability in SC.

On May 7, 2024, SCICH and the SC Regional Office of the Dept of HUD partnered to conduct a training and roundtable discussion among SC Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), members from all four SC Continuums of Care (CoCs) and State Agencies to learn more about the work of our organizations, and to discuss collaborative ideas on working together to address housing instability and homelessness in SC. 

This was an historic event, as it marked the first time that more than 50 representatives from PHAs, CoCs and State Agencies had gathered together to begin building solid partnerships to address these important issues.
